Exit polls predict positive results for BJP
New Delhi, Apr 13 (UNI) BJP seems to have improved its prospects in Uttar Pradesh significantly after the second phase of polling, with the exit polls, giving the party 95 to 105 seats as compared to 88 seats it had won in the last election.
While NDTV gave predicted 95 to 105 seats for BJP, Star News gave the party 101 seats. Both showed a decline in vote percentage for SP and BSP, although BSP will be able to win a maximum number of seats.
As per NDTV, SP will be winning 110 to 120 seats (143 in 2002), BSP 115 to 125 (98 in 2002), BJP 95-105 (88 in 2002), Congress 35 to 45 (25 in 2002) and other 20 to 30 as against 49 in last election.
The Star News gave BSP (135), SP (100), Congress (28) and others 39.
Of the 58 seats which went to polls, NDTV predicts a gain of 8 to 10 seats for BJP, giving 18 to 20 seats as against just 10 seats it had won from this segment in the last election. it predicts 8 for SP seats as against 8-10 in 2002, BSP 14 to 16 (15 in 2002), Congress 6-8 (6 in 2002). It showed a decline of two to four seats for Rashtriya Lok Dal which had won 11 seats in the last election.
The Independents who had won eight seats earlier, this time would be the biggest losers, not winning any seats.
The Star TV has shown a positive swing of 2.5 per cent in favour of BJP, and a significant fall of 5.7 per cent in vote percentage for SP. It gives 12 seats to BJP and merely four to SP. The BSP is likely to improve its tally to 19 as compared to 15 in the last election, but Congress gets one seat less as compared to six seats won by the party in 2002.
