Bhopal, Apr 13 (UNI) An eight per cent drop in malaria cases has been registered in Madhya Pradesh as compared to previous year with the number of falciparum malaria patients declining by 11 per cent.
Health Commissioner Rajesh Rajora today said the number of malaria cases came down to 96,042 in 2006 from 1,04,317 in 2005.
Likewise, the number of falciparum malaria patients reduced from 32,223 in 2005 to 28,900 in 2006.
In 2004, 99,708 malaria cases were reported, of which 52,830 were falciparum malaria patients.
Dr Rajora said the decline in malaria cases was the result of efforts made at the government level. He said 4,000 malaria link volunteers had been appointed in 20 malaria-affected districts.
Likewise, depots had been established in villages for free distribution of Chloroquine tablets.
More than 64 lakhs of mosquito-larvivorous fish 'Gambusia' had been cultivated in the water bodies of malaria-affected regions in order to control breeding of mosquitoes, he added.
