Disbursement of PM's package in final stages: Sahay

Ahmednagar, Maharashtra, Apr 13 (UNI) The process of providing a Rs 5,000 cr package to North-Eastern states for developing basic amenities, as declared by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, is in its final stages, Mr Dinesh Nandan Sahay, Tripura Governor said today.

Addressing reporters after visiting the Sai Baba temple here, Mr sahay said the state governments of North-Eastern states were making efforts for industrial development in their region. Due to consistent efforts by the Union Home Minister and the Home Secretary, the violence in the eight North-Eastern states had decreased in last two years, he said.

Despite being a progressive state, the increasing suicides by farmers in Maharashtra was a matter of serious concern. Though 70 per cent of the country's population was engaged in agriculture, the state governments were not providing enough attention, he regretted.

He also stressed the need for providing low interest loans to farmers and introduction of new technology in farming.
