New Delhi, Apr 13 (UNI) A local court here today remanded three officials posted at the Tihar Jail to judicial custody for severely beating two undertrial prisoners.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACM) Kamini Lau, after hearing the complaint of the undertrial Christopher James, took cognizance against the three officials under Section 323, 384, read with 511 of Indian Penal Code and remanded them to judicial custody till April 16.

The ACM directed that the bail application of the officials will be considered on April 16. She further directed that the DG Prison (Tihar) will produce the report against the said officials if any other complaint is pending against them.

James, a 51-year old Ph.D. holder and undertrial prisoner, alleged that he was severely beaten by lathis and wooden plank by Superintendent KS Meena, Assistant Superintendent Dhananjay Rawat and Chakkar Chief Mange Ram on October 24, 2006, as he refused to participate in "the officials'nefarious activities" to accept bribes and misappropriate government funds. The officials also forced and pressurised him give them Rs 5000 from his Prisoner Person Account, maintained by the jail authorities, he alleged.

James informed this to Director General(Prison) but realised that no action was being taken.
