Lucknow, Apr 13 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Congress today expelled its media cell chairman for anti-party activities.

UP Congress president Salman Khurshid, in his letter to Ashok Bajpai, today lamented him for indulging in anti-party activities and campaigning for Bahujan Samaj Party. Bajpai has been removed from Congress for a period of six years.

The letter quoted news reports suggesting that Bajpai was campaigning for BSP and indulging in anti-party actiities.

Supporters of Bajpai had created ugly scenes before Union minister and convenor of AICC media management Kapil Sibal when he had gone to Allahabad to release the party's manifesto for the ongoing UP assembly elections.

Bajpai was not considered for a ticket from Allahabad following which his supporters created ruckus before Mr Sibal.

The party has instead fielded All-India Mahila Congress pesident Rita Bahuguna Joshi from Allahabad. Ms Joshi is the daughter of former UP chief minister Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna.
