'Chakka jam' by lawyers to protest police lathicharge

Allahabad, Apr 13 (UNI) Allahabad High Court and district court lawyers today resorted to 'chakka jam' to protest yesterday's police lathicharge on advocates at collectorate here.

Earlier in the day, the HC Bar Association held an emergency meeting and decided to boycott work to protest against the incident, which resulted in injuries to over 30 people.

Later, the lawyers resorted to 'chakka jam' at Grand Trunk (GT) road and vandalised six vehicles.

The situation could be brought under control only after HC Chief Justice Hemant Laxman Gokhale reached the spot and assured of stringent actions against the erring district and police officials.

Meanwhile, heavy force has been deployed near the HC to avoid fresh violence.

Later, the lawyers of the district court also took to street and pelted stones at police, besides damaging a jeep near the SSP office and torching two water tankers.
