Mizoram: Centre agrees to follow 75:25 pattern
Aizawl, Apr 13: In response to the states education ministers' plea, the Centre has agreed to follow the former pattern in the Sarva Shiksha Abhyan funding.
The Centre has decided that the Centre-state share in the SSA will be 75:25 as before, and not 50:50 as has been proposed.
In case of the North East states, 15 of the 25 per cent will be met by the Department for the North East Region (DoNER), leaving the state with only 10 per cent matching share.
At the All India Education Ministers' Conference, Mizoram's Education minister and NE education ministers' forum chairman Dr R Lalthangliana, speaking on behalf of the NE states, criticised the proposed funding pattern. He iterated that economically backward states like the ones in NE, would find it difficult to meet the 50 per cent.
According to the state Education minister, Mizoram is one of the states to implement the SSA projects in India, and is moving fast ahead to top the list in literacy rate.
