BJP opposes religion-based OBC quota

Tirupati, Apr 13 (UNI) Opposing the move of the Andhra Pradesh Government for religion-based reservations in OBC category, BJP state spokesperson N Ramachandra Rao today alleged the Congress was trying to provide reservation for Muslims while the issue was sub-judice.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr Rao said the Supreme Court had issued an order against OBC reservation on the basis of the latest census.

Stating that four per cent of the population in the state including some of the Muslim communities, were already in the OBC category, he charged that the Congress was trying to provide OBC status to all Muslim communities.

About Babli irrigation project across river Godavari, Mr Rao said the Maharashtra Government was continuing the project work, though the issue was sub-judice.

If Babli project was completed, the Sriramsagar Project across Godavari in Telangana would dry up, he warned and alleged that the state government should be held responsible for letting the Maharashtra Government go ahead with the project.

He urged both the Centre and state government to mount pressure on Mahahrashtra to halt the project work.
