AHSD will implement health facility in the state

Barasat, Apr 13 (UNI) Failing to implement the National Rural Health Mission to provide medical treatment at the grassroots level, the Left Front government bestowed the responsibility on Association of Health Service Doctors, West Bengal (AHSD,WB).

The biggest Association of medical officers of the state started awareness programme organising conventions at the district level so that people were aware of the basic tenet of the NRHM following the Health Sector Strategy of the Left Front government, which also started an Health System Development Initiative(HSDI) scheme in last August.

President of the AHSD, West Bengal, Dr Prodyut Sur, however, today claimed that the association with its strength of about 6,300 officers and cadres would be able to materialise the mission with the motto of 'Working together for Health' in due course of time, though proper infrastructure to fulfill the mission was yet to be made available in all respect.

He told a press conference that the state government by this time would develop the infrastructure in the 200 gram Panchayat headquarters and upgrade the primary, secondary health centres and rural hospitals all over the state.

Dr Sur said, "the state government though restricted appointment in Group 'C' and 'D' in the health department for years together, it had maintained sufficient recruitment of cadre based medical officers in different categories rising to 9460 during last four years." Dr Sur was critical of restricting benefits to the mothers of below 18 years, as mortality rates of the mother of this ages were high in our country, while the centre had declared the Janani Suraksha Yojana for the pregnant mothers of above 19 years of age.
