865 in fray for for Phase V, 34 paper rejected in phase VI in UP

Lucknow, Apr 13 (UNI) Altogether 865 candidates are in the fray for phase-V elections in 58 Assembly seats where polling is slated for April 28.

In Phase-VI, nomination papers of 34 candidates were rejected today during the scrutiny.

In Phase-V, a total of 58 candidates withdrew their nomination papers and now after the expiry of the date for withdrawal, 865 candidates are in the fray.

Sarojininagar seat in Lucknow has the maximum number of 31 candidates in fray while the minimum is six in Manikpur (SC) in Chitrakoot district.

Now a total of 840 are left in the fray for phase-VI where polling in 52 Assembly seats will be held on May 3. Candidates can withdraw their nominations till April 16.

By-elections to the two Lok Sabha seats, Robertsganj (Reserved) and Mirzapur, would also be held along with the sixth phase polling where three nominations were rejected for Mirzapur seat. Now 12 candidates are in the fray for Robertsganj LS seat and 11 for the Mirzapur seat.

Notification for the last and seventh phase was issued today for elections in 59 seats on May 8. On the first day, 21 nominations were filed.

In the third phase, 863 candidates are in the fray for 58 assembly seats which go to polls on April 18.

In the second phase of polling held today, 881 candidates were in the fray for 58 seats.

In the first phase of polling on April 7, the fate of as many as 839 candidates were sealed in the EVMs where over 46 per cent of voters had cast ballots in 62 seats spread over 13 districts.
