New Delhi, Apr 13 (UNI) More than 800 fire operators will join the Delhi Fire Service in the next three months to enhance fire service operations in the city in view of the expanding population and growing urban dwellings.

Nearly 835 posts of fire operators have been sanctioned and the recruitment would be done very soon as the procedure has started and applications invited, said Chief Fire Officer R C Sharma, while speaking on the sidelines of the press conference organised to commemorate Fire Service Week today.

''The appointments would be over within the next three months after which they would undergo a six-month training and then be ready for deployment.'' In order to reduce response time, 28 new fire stations would be set up, he said, adding that 26 sites have been acquired for the purpose and work was in progress at 16 sites.

''While seven of these fire stations would be operational within the next six months, nine others would be ready by April 2008.'' The remaining 12, of which for only ten land was available, we hope to complete by the end of next year, he added.

Besides, as an additional step to gear up for the summer season, when incidents of fire tend to rise, a temporary fire post has been established at Zaffarpur which will be equipped with wireless communication facilities and continue till the end of June, Mr Sharma added.
