Ticketless travellers cough up Rs 2.55 cr to CR in March
Mumbai, Apr 12 (UNI) The Central Railways (CR) has netted Rs 2.55 crore from ticketless travellers during March this year.
This amount is 12 per cent higher, compared to the revenue accrued under similar account in the corresponding month last year.
During its drive in March to nab ticketless travellers, the Railways found 93,000 cases of ticketless and irregular travel including unbooked luggage. During the similar drive on March 2006, 84,000 such cases were detected.
A total of 10.67 lakh cases were detected during the period of March 2006 to April 2007 as against 9.52 lakh cases detected during April 2005-March 2006.
Another 452 cases of transfer of reserved tickets were detected by the Railway authorities in the month of March 2007, and railways coffers got richer by Rs two lakh, which it realised from the offenders, besides confiscation of tickets worth Rs 77,000.
