Thousands pay homage to Rajkumar on first death anniversary
Bangalore, Apr 12 (UNI) Thousands of fans today paid homage to Dadasaheb Phalke awardee Rajkumar on his first death anniversary at his burial place in Kanteerava Studio in the city, amidst tight security.
Large number of fans of the Kannada matinee idol were seen thronging the spot right from the morning and police had a tough time controlling the surging crowd.
To mark the occasion, 101 fans pledged their eyes for donation.
Blood camps and feeding the masses were also organised all over the State.
After paying tributes, the family members of Rajkumar, including his wife Parvathamma Rajkumar, sons Shivrajkumar, Raghavendra Rajkumar and Puneet Rajkumar, thanked the people for showing respect to late Rajkumar on his death anniversary.
Noted film personalities, including actors Vishnuvardhan, Bharathi, B Saroja Devi, Jayanthi, Ravichandran, Dwarakesh, Sundarraj, Umashri and Jaijagadish, were among those who paid tributes.
On behalf of the State Government, Kannda and Culture Minister H S Mahadeva Prasad placed a wreath on the samadhi.
Police had made elaborate bandobust arrangements to maintain law and order as memories of the violence during Rajkumar's funeral procession which claimed six lives were still fresh in the minds of everyone.
