Teachers call off stir, agree for spot valuation

Hyderabad, Apr 12 (UNI) The striking teachers of the government schools in Andhra Pradesh today called off their strike and agreed to go for spot valuation of standard tenth examination papers from tomorrow, following talks with Chief Minister Y S Rajsekhara Reddy.

Emerging out of talks this evening, United Teachers Federation (UTF) state Seneral Secretary and Joint Action Committee of Teachers' Organisations (JATCO) steering committee convenor N Narayana told UNI that the government had agreed to clear arrears of Rs 32 crore two-year apprenticeship of teachers and regularise them.

Dr Reddy directed Education Minister N Rajya Lakshmi to constitute a committee to settle the pending issues within three months.

He said the government also agreed to send a senior officer to Delhi to expedite the united service rules matter of the teachers which was pending in Delhi.

The striking teachers had boycotted the tenth class examination spot valuations for the last five days to press their demands.
