Signature campaign against Cauvery verdict

Mysore, Apr 12 (UNI) Signature campaign, protests and dharnas by farmers and pro-Kannada organisations continued against the final award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal in the Cauvery basin districts of Mandya, Mysore and Chamarajanagar, today.

In Mysore, the Cauvery Kriya Samithi organised a signature campaign to collect one lakh signatures from the public against the verdict.

Samithi President and former Union Minister V Sreenivasa Prasad, speaking on the occasion, said the signatures would be sent to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, urging him to intervene in the matter and provide justice. At any cost, the final award should not be notified, he added.

Meanwhile, hundreds of farmers under the banner of KRRS of Srirangapatna unit staged a dharna in front of the Infosys campus here protesting against Infosys Chief Mentor N R Narayana Murthy's remarks against the Cauvery agitation in the State.

In Mandya district, farmers of Marilinge Gowda village and Budanur village resorted to rail rokho for some time. The dharna by the Cauvery Hitarakshana Samithi continued at Silver Jubilee Park in Mandya, as well as at Maddur, Pandavapura and Srirangapatna.
