Rane pattern failed in Ramtek - owing to Ranjit Deshmukh

Mumbai, Apr 12 (UNI) Rane pattern, which dominated Maharashtra's political scenario since July 2005, has failed in Ramtek, owing to former Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) President Ranjit Deshmukh who contested as an independent candidate.

Revenue Minister Narayan Rane was chucked out of the Shiv Sena in July 2005 and later he resigned from the House and was re-elected from Malwan constituency as a Congress candidate.

He was followed by the seven Sena legislators who also resigned from the legislative Assembly out of which six were re-elected as Congress candidates.

His formula of asking his supporters in Shiv Sena to resign and getting them re-elected on the Congress ticket became popular as 'Rane Pattern' in the state which took the Congress at numero uno position in the legislative Assembly.

In Srivardhan assembly constituency, however, his nominee Shyam Sawant could not get re-elected, owing to the support provided by the PWP to the Shiv Sena.

Former Shiv Sena MP from Ramtek, Subodh Mohite, was the first Lok Sabha MP to resign alleging that he was insulted by Sena Chief Bal Thackeray and Executive President Uddhav Thackeray who refused to meet him.

As expected, Mr Mohite was given the Congress candidature but a powerful leader from Vidarbha, Ranjit Deshmukh, opposed the same and said now there would be 'Deshmukh Pattern' all over Maharashtra and though he did not win the seat, he was successful in damaging the Rane pattern.

In Jalgaon constituency, the Congress could not take the benefit of the fact that sitting BJP MP was involved in cash-for-query scam.

The clout of NCP MLA Sureshdada Jain, who is a known party hopper, could not win the seat for the Congress.

In Erandol also, the election was held as the sitting BJP MP was caught in cash-for-query scam and the NCP succeeded in winning this seat, thereby increasing their tally in the Lok sabha.
