PSHRC directs man be booked for raping dalit woman
Hoshiarpur, Apr 12 (UNI) On directions of the Punjab State Human Rights Commission (PSHRC), police here booked a man of village Dohar last evening for allegedly raping a poverty-stricken Dalit woman on December 31 last year.
According to official sources, the accused Indu had strained relations with the family of a poor dalit Dev Raj in the same village. Dev Raj's wife had made a police complaint last year, accusing Indu of demolishing the wall of her house.
In retaliation, Indu along with his two accomplices allegedly abducted her on December 31, and raped her on the banks of a canal nearby the village. They later left her there and fled.
The victim reported the matter to the Police in Talwara on January 3, 2007.
When the police failed in taking any action against the accused, the dalit woman took the matter to the PSHRC.
The PSHRC, while directing the police to tke prompt action in the matter, fixed May 2, 2007 for the next hearing in the case.
The police booked the accused Indu under section 376 of the IPC last evening.
