Mulayam condemns lathicharge on lawyers
Lucknow, Apr 12 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav has criticised the lathicharge on lawyers in the court premises in Allahabad on the last day of nomination of the Uttar Pradesh assembly poll.
Mr Yadav, also the ruling Samajwadi Party chief, has expressed regret over the incident.
In an official statement, he said the police administration should ''behave properly with sensitive people'' like advocates, doctors, teachers, journalists, stage-artists and literary persons.
He said the sole aim of the government administration was not only to protect farmers, labourers, the downtrodden, women and children, but also to ensure such behaviour with intelligentsia, so that their image improves in the eyes of sensitive people of the society and thus result in a better public opinion about police administration.
He has shown his intent to punish those responsible for the incident after conducting an inquiry into the incident. He said all the DMs and SSPs should ensure no such incident occurred in future all over the state.
