Badaun/Farrukhabad, Apr 12 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and ruling Samajwadi Party (SP) Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav today alleged Election Commission (EC) was behind the low voting percentage in Phase-I of the state assembly poll on April 7.

''Some EC officials are also involved in the gameplan, as they have been promised better posts after the poll,'' Mr Yadav claimed while addressing election meetings in Badaun and Farrukhabad.

However, he observed that ''voters are intelligent enough to decide whom to vote...the UP assembly poll results will prove it.'' The former defence minister claimed people are with SP. There is a strong SP undercurrent in UP and no political party is capable of defeating it.

Training guns at Congress and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) for their ''anti-Muslim'' strategies, Mr Yadav observed both parties claim to be the well-wishers of Muslims...but, they did not raise their voice, when Iraq's deposed President Saddam Hussain was hanged on the directions of US.

''SP has always fought for the welfare of Muslims and will continue the same after coming to power,'' he added.

Mr Yadav cautioned that while BSP chief Mayawati is claiming to put him behind jail if she came to power, BJP is for compulsory recital of Vande Mataram in schools.
