Man sentenced to life in murder case

Rourkela, Apr 12 (UNI) Rourkela Additional Sessions Judge V Jayashree, today sentenced one Anjules Soreng to life imprisonment in a murder case in January last year.

According to the prosecution Soreng killed one Muna Barik of Malgodown-Kudhiapada under Udit Nagar police station on January 27 last year and threw the body at the nearby Durgapur hills.

His associate, Suchita Oram was also convicted under section 201 IPC for helping disappearance of evidences by smearing cow dung over the blood stain on the road to save the offender from legal punishment.

The Judge sentenced Oram to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of two years and to pay a fine of Rs 1,000 and in default of the fine to undergo imprisonment for additional one month.

Suchita was also sentenced to undergo imprisonment for six months being a part of conspiracy under section 120(G)(2) Indian Penal Code. She was, however, released on bail to prefer appeal in the High Court.

As many as 13 prosecution witnesses were examined in the case and the conviction was based on the evidence of prosecution witness Clodia Sorang, cousin sister of the accused.
