HC constitutes committee to check medicos' private practice

Allahabad, Apr 12 (UNI) Allahabad High Court has constituted a committee of prominent citizens to inquire and locate such teachers/doctors of Moti Lal Nehru Medical College here, who indulge in private practice from their residence or attending private nursing homes and hospitals.

A two-judge bench comprising Justices Sunil Ambwani and Dilip Gupta said the committee will be at liberty to visit hospitals, nursing homes and the residence of teachers and doctors and other places to find out, if any teacher of the medical college is indulging in private practice.

The order was passed on a PIL filed by Satish Chaturvedi of Allahabad to provide better medical facilities in the medical college and its associate hospitals.

The bench said the committee will directly report to the Court and submit a copy of the report to the chief medical officer (CMO) so that immediate steps can be taken for suspending the registration of such hospitals and nursing homes pending a final decision in the matter.

The CMO will also be at liberty to seal the hospital and nursing home in event any teacher of the medical college found attending any patient in such places.
