Complete blackout after all seven units of RTPCL fail
Bangalore, Apr 12 (UNI) Most parts of Karnataka suffered a blackout today as gusty winds tripped 400 KV circuit breakers of the fourth unit of the Raichur thermal unit, consequent to which all the seven units went off the state grid.
Raichur thermal plant sources told UNI that the northern districts were affected from midnight, while other parts of the State, including the city, witnessed intermittent power breakdowns following the problem.
However, power was drawn from hydel stations to revive generation from four units of the Raichur plant of the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited gradually. Work was apace to revive the other units.
The sources said a similar blackout had occurred in 2004 due to abnormal winds.
