BJP condemns lathi charge by Maharashtra police

Hyderabad, Apr 12 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh unit of BJP today condemned the lathi charge on BJP workers and leaders by the Maharastra police yesterday.

Addressing a press conference here, State General Secretary K Lakshman and Former Union Minister Ch Vidhyasagara Rao condemned the attitude of the Maharastra government and asked on what section they had detained the BJP leaders.

They said there were no women constables and women party workers and leaders were brutally manhandled by the Maharastra policemen.

They demanded that the UPA should instruct the Maharastra government to stop the Babli project immediately. They alleged that the Central Ministers belonging to Andhra Pradesh were not opening their mouth on the issue though UPA government was survived by the Congress MPs of the state.

They demanded the intervention of Congress President Sonia Gandhi and said they could not understand why she was not interfering in the issue.

They also demanded Sonia Gandhi to honour the sentiments of the Telangana people on separate Telangana.

They said Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy should initiate for an all party delegation to inspect the Babli project and other projects illegally construting by the Maharastra government along Godavari river.

They said the chief minister should prove that he was committed for the welfare of the Telangana region, by taking necessary steps to pressurise Maharastra government to stop the projects.

Meanwhile, BJP stepped up its agitation in Telangana region on the Babli issue by burning the effigy of Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh in Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Adilabad, and Warangal districts.
