Air India, Jet-Sahara to enjoy supremacy

Mumbai, Apr 12 (UNI) With the merger of Jet Airways and Air Sahara, and the union Cabinet approving the merger of Air India and Indian, the two merged entities will have lion's share in the Indian skies with Air India maintaining its supremacy.

Sources said Jet Airways has got a fleet of 62 aircrafts and Air Sahara has got 27. While Jet is flying on international routes of London, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Kathmandu, Colombo, Bangkok, it also plans to launch its services to New york, San francisco and Shanghai.

Air Sahara has got services to Kathmandu, Male, Colombo, Singapore and has plans to increase to Kuala Lumpur and two more places.

Jet has got employees strength of 7,000 and Air Sahara 3,000.

Jet enjoys nearly 24 per cent of the total market share of the aviation industry while Air Sahara shares eight per cent.

Air India and Indian is the oldest international and domestic carrier of the country and it has its services to all the main destinations in the world.

Air India has got a fleet of 36 aircraft, while the Air India Express has 13 aircraft, Air India sources said.

Indian has a fleet of 74 aircraft.

In all, the new merged entity of Air India and Indian will have a fleet of 123 aircraft, sources said However, 50 more aircraft are expected to join by 2010, sources added.
