Youth slashes wrist outside court room in HC
Mumbai, Apr 11 (UNI) In a bizzare love story, a young boy from Pune, accused of abducting a girl, today slashed his wrist outside a court room in the Bombay High Court premises.
The incident took place just before a petition, filed by the boy's parents, could come up for hearing.
Vikaskumar Verma had eloped with an Indian Air Force (IAF) officer's daughter, Khushboo Chouhan, on January 15 and stayed with him for two months. However, she returned to her parents after they persuaded her to return home with them during the earlier hearing.
He suffered minor injuries and was taken to G T Hospital by the Azad Maidan Police for medical treatment. After administering primary medical care, he was discharged immediately, Public Prosecutor Satish Borulkar later informed a division bench of Justice Ranjana Desai and Justice Dilip Bhosale.
Mr Borulkar told the court that a first information report (FIR) has been filed against Vikas and Panchanama of the incident had also been completed.
The court was told that Vikas had written a letter to Khushboo, daughter of Indian Air Force (IAF) officer Randhir singh Chouhan, to inform her that he would commit suicide if she did not join him again. But she refused to accept his demand. Hence, he could have taken such a drastic step.
In the court, Khushboo, however, reiterated that she wanted to stay with her parents and continue her studies. She also informed the court that Vikas had threatened her many times and even restrained her from contacting her parents, during her stay with him.
Meanwhile, the court has requested Senior Counsel Shirish Gupte to talk to both the parties and try to persuade them, so that the complaint registered in Yerawada Police Station in Pune against Vikas' parents can be withdrawn, as his father, Rameshchandra Verma, also serving in IAF, is on the verge of retirement.
