Thermal Power Plan in Garo Hills at conceptual stage

Shillong, Apr 11 (UNI) Power Minister Dr Mukul Munda Sangma today informed the Assembly that the installed capacity of Meghalaya is 185.2 MW and Meghalaya's share from Central Sector is 132 MW--total 317.2 MW.

The state is meeting the restricted peak demand of around 180 MW and off peak demand of around 120 MW by purchasing additional power from other utilities through different power trader, Dr Sangma said, while replying to volley of queries during the Question Hour.

In this regard, he said, the government is taking up with the Central government enhancement of allotment of share from the Central Generating Station coming up in the near future, especially thermal based stations.

To a question, Dr Sangma spoke about the fund the state required to arrange for power generation capacity for 2007-08. He added that the peak demand is expected to be around 510 MW which will escalate to 964 MW by the year 2011-12.

As per the prevailing project cost of Rs 7 crores per MW, Rs 1156.80 crore will be required for projects of (510-317.2) 192.8 MW, he said adding the present cost may escalate to around Rs 9 crore per MW by 2011-12.
