Shillong, Apr 11 (UNI) Meghalaya's Minister for Higher and Technical Education, Robert G Lyngdoh, today said there will be no reservations for students from the state in the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) here.

As the IIM is a central institute, admission to this institute shall be through Common Admission Test, Mr Lyngdoh said, while replying to a Zero Hour notice tabled by Meghalaya Democratic Party MLA Process T Sawkmie.

He, however, said the youth from the region would benefit tremendously by having such a prestigious institute in the region.

This will be the seventh IIM of the country. At present, there are six such institutes at Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Kolkata, Indore, Kozhikode and Lucknow.

Mr Lyngdoh said the state government had allotted 80 acre of land free of cost to the proposed IIM at Mawdiangdiang. At present, the government had temporary building at Mayurbhanj Complex in Nongthymmai to start classes.

He also informed that the Institute will start short-term course on Management Development Programme and Executive Development Programme.

''Getting this Central institute is a very prestigious issue for the state of Meghalaya as other neighbouring states have been trying hard for setting up IIM in their areas,'' he reiterated.

Mr Lyngdoh said the main aim and objective of the state government is to tap the meritorious students of the state as well as of the region as the students can avail the best of education in this institute.
