HC extends protection to minority boy married to Hindu girl

Mumbai, Apr 11 (UNI) The Bombay High Court today granted police protection to a boy, hailing from minority community, for marrying a Hindu girl.

A division bench of Justice Ranjana Desai and Justice Dilip Bhosale directed Mumbai Police to provide police protection to Umer and his wife Priyanka Wadhwani, both hailing from Bhopal, for 15 days and extend it if required.

The court issued a notice to Bhopal Superintendent of Police and has restrained the Bhopal Police from arresting Umer till April 18, when the matter is scheduled to come up for next hearing.

Umer and Priyanka had moved to Mumbai on April 2. On April 5, Umer tied a knot to Priyanaka as per Hindu rituals after converting to Hinduism on the same day.

Meanwhile, a first information report (FIR) had been lodged against Umer in Bhopal, alleging that he had kidnapped Priyanka.

Subsequently, some Hindu organisations allegedly undertook protests and dharnas in front of his residence in Bhopal.
