(Repeating, correcting designation in para one)

New Delhi, Apr 10 (UNI) The Supreme Court today reserved its verdict on a petition filed by All India Anti-Terrorist Front chairman rpt chairman Maninderjeet Singh Bitta seeking directions to the Centre and states to use security number plates for vehicles.

According to the petitioner, these number plates cannot be tampered with and if anybody uses fake number plates, the forgery can be detected immediately. This will also help in minimising the chances of terrorist attacks, he added.

A bench, comprising Justices Arijit Pasayat, C K Thakker and Lokeshwar Singh Panta, also expressed its unhappiness with the casual attitude of some state governments who have not implemented the scheme till date.

The Centre has, however, agreed in principle to implement the scheme in the interest of national security.

The bench reserved the judgement after the arguments were concluded on behalf of all the parties.

Mr Bitta is the former president of the Indian Youth Congress.
