PHDCCI calls for opening Wagah border for trade
Chandigarh, Apr 10 (UNI) The PHDCCI has called for removing all impediments to enhancing bilateral trade between India and Pakistan, including opening of Wagah border for movement of goods.
The Chamber has also suggested that facilities at both ends of the wagah checkpost, including bonded warehouses need to be created.
This was one of the significant issues discussed during the PHDCCI business delegations recent visit to Pakistan.
The Indian delegation comprised of Mr Sanjay Bhatia, President, PHDCCI, Ravi Wig, Chairman Indo-Pak Task Force, P K Rajgarhia, P K Jain, Ajay Bector and Krishan Kalra, Secretary General, PHDCCI.
On his return home, Mr Bhatia said that PHDCCI was deeply committed to the promotion of Indo-Pak trade and economic co-operation. It sponsored the first ever private sector trade delegation from India to Pakistan in November 1982 heralding a new era in the history of bilateral trade relations between India and Pakistan, he pointed out.
Mr Bhatia said that PHDCCI has MoUs with the Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Gujranwala Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
He said that PHDCCI was particularly keen on developing close ties between the two countries, since the Chamber covers the northern region of India and economic cooperation between the two countries would be mutually beneficial to the people of this region.
In order to explore areas of cooperation and strengthen business links, PHDCCI decided to take a business delegation to Pakistan and visited various cities including Karachi, Islamabad, Gujranwala, Lahore and Faislabad and interacted with the local business community at meetings organised by the local Pakistani Chambers.
The delegates also attend the EXPO-PAK 2007 Exhibition at Karachi.
