Meghalaya explores Centre's intervention on boundary issue with Asom
Shillong, Apr 10 (UNI) The government is trying to involve the Centre for solving its long standing border dispute with Asom, Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister, in charge of Border Area development, Dr Donkupar Roy today told the Assembly.
Dr Roy, who was replying to a Zero Hour notice moved by Process T Sawkmie of the Meghalaya Democratic Party said, ''in fact all the other state governments, sharing boundary with Asom, have taken up initiatives to sort the vexed inter-state boundary problem.'' He, however, admitted that the government could not solve the problem even after three and half decade due to the ''complexity of the issue''.
Dr Roy also said that the government will also examine Mr Sawkmie's suggestion of taking the matter to the Court and involving Union Minister in-charge, Development of North Eastern Region Mani Shankar Aiyar to redress the boundary row with Asom.
Meghalaya shares 696 km boundary with Asom.
Earlier, Mr Sawkmie said the government should accord top priority to the inter-state boundary issue.
