Srinagar, Apr 10: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has said about 13,000 unemployed girls would be engaged in 6,500 anganwari centres across the Valley this year. He said the Congress-led coalition government was striving hard to make Jammu and Kashmir a 'Khushaal (prosperous)' state and initiated several steps in this regard. Mr Azad said 16,000 unemployed girls were engaged in 8,000 anganwari centres in the recent past and 13,000 more would be absorbed in 6500 such centres.

He said interviews were underway to recruit 17,000 candidates on various posts by the state Public Service Commission and the Subordinate Services Recruitment Board.

The Chief Minister said his government has approached the Centre for providing funds to raise 15 battalions of police in which 15,000 youth would be absorbed.

Rs 100 crore had been earmarked for self employment schemes, he said and urged banks to simplify the procedure so that more and more youth apply for loans to start their own income generating units.

''Apart from upgrading primary, middle and high schools due attention is being given to promote technical education,'' he added.
