TN to take all steps for uniform standard of education
Chennai, Apr 9 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Government will take necessary steps to provide uniform standard of education to all school students up to the tenth standard, School Education Minister Thangam Thennarasu told the Assembly today.
Replying to the debate on the demand for grants for his department, he said the Government had constituted a committee under former Vice-Chancellor Muthukumaran to examine modalities to provide uniform standard of education in Tamil Nadu up to Standard ten.
The committee, which had elicited views from educationists and the common public, was expected to submit its report to the Government by the month-end.
The Government would take appropriate steps to remove disparities in educational standards in different streams of education in the state, he added.
Mr Thennarasu said child-centered Activity-Based Learning (ABL), introduced at a few corporation schools in the city on a trial basis, would be extended to other districts.
He said the outlay for school education in 2007-08 was Rs 7,056.57 crore, an increase of 30 per cent compared to last year. Of this, a sum of Rs 3,598 crore had been earmarked for elementary education alone, he added.
