Hyderabad, Apr 9 (UNI) Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today alleged the Karnataka Government was not cooperating with Andhra Pradesh in ensuring drinking water supply to the drought-prone Anantapur District.

Intervening after Speaker K R Suresh Reddy disallowed the TRS notice on adjournment motion for more Krishna water for the Telangana region, Dr Reddy regretted he could not get an appointment with the Karnataka Government despite making efforts.

The government was keen on providing ten tmcft of water from the River Krishna's tributary Tungabhadra through the K C Canal to Anantapur, he said, adding it was unfortunate the Karnataka Government was not even ready to talk with him on the issue.

The Chief Minister also pointed out that only the TRS the state was opposing provision of water to drought-prone Anantapur.

Maintaining it was the Congress which had brought to focus the drinking water problems of the fluorosis-hit Nalgonda District, the Chief Minister said the TRS was making a ''non-issue an issue.'' Of the 690 villages identified, Krishna water was provided to 356 villages while the works relating to 282 villages were under progress.

Schemes for 52 more villages would be taken up soon. As much as 197.5 tmcft of Krishna water was being provided to Nalgonda for irrigation and drinking water, he added.
