Adequate fertilisers supply for Punjab: Pawar

Chandigarh, Apr 9 (UNI) Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has asked the Union Agricultre Ministry to ensure timely arrangements for adequate supply of Urea and DAP during the kharif season.

Mr Badal who met Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar at New Delhi today, was assured that there would be absolutely no shortage of fertilisers at the time of sowing.

Mr Pawar told the Chief Minister that his Ministry had already made elaborate arrangements to supply 14.50 lakh tonnes Urea and 2.75 lakh tonnes DAP against the demand of 12.50 lakh tonnes Urea and 2.50 lakh tonnes DAP.

At the meting, Mr Badal called for expediting the process of setting up of a perishable cargo complex at Amritsar as the Airport Authority of India had already agreed to give two acres of land on lease. He said that a sum of Rs 24 crore was needed for the construction of the cargo complex.

Mr Pawar has asked the Secretary, Ministry of Food, Mr T Nand Kumar to constitute a committee under the chairmanship of Mr Vivek Mehrotra, Additional Secretary and Financial Advisor, Ministry of Food to resolve specific issues related to agriculture and food involving an amount of Rs 3,660.49 crore, pending for payment from the Centre to the Punjab government.

Mr Pawar assured the Chief Minister of support and cooperation to settle all the pending issues. The Union Minister also assured Mr Badal to clear the Rs 545 crore state government proposal for bringing the cooperative institutions out of the red.

Mr Pawar also agreed to the proposal put forth by Mr Badal with regard to giving liberal grant to the state to promote the plantation of citrus under the National Horticulture Mission.
