Rabri alleges shabby treatment to 'fairer sex' in Bihar

Patna, Apr 8 (UNI) Former chief minister Rabri Devi today castigated the Nitish Kumar government for its 'failure' to protect the interests of women in the state.

In a release, Ms Rabri Devi, who is also the leader of the opposition in the assembly, expressed concern over the rising number of crimes committed against women and said incidence of foeticides had not declined despite tall claims by the government to the contrary.

Effective enforcemet of laws, relating to prohibition female foeticide was lacking, although the relevant act provided for strict punishment to offenders, she deplored.

''The so-called empowerment of women in Bihar had not changed ground realities as they were being subjected to all sorts of atrocities,'' she maintained, adding the plight of the families of the women mukhiyas were no better.

''Health care facilities for women in the district and block level hospitals were pathetic as its gynaecological departments did not have the required manpower,'' she alleged.
