President calls on IT companies to reverse brain drain
Mysore, Apr 8 (UNI) President Dr A P J Abdul Kalam today called upon the knowledge industry in the country to reverse the brain drain that India had suffered since long by bringing back the intelligent people who had flown to other countries in search of greener pastures.
Speaking to the trainees at the Infosys' sprawling Global Education Centre here, he said the factors brain drain had pained him most. With the country making progress in all spheres it was time that the all such people be brought back.
''We should take the example of Nalanda University which once trained people from 90 countries. Later what happened to our country? Why the bright people left the shores. I want this trend to be reversed. Institutions like Infosys, which runs such a fine training facility here and excelled in the field of IT, should help the country reverse this brain drain,'' he said.
Infosys Chief Mentor and Non-executive Chairman Narayana Murthy, who himself came back to India after a stint in the US to set up the IT giant, speaking to media persons later welcomed Mr Kalam's suggestion.
''I fully support it. However it will be important for us to provide the basic necessities for these people will need good English medium schools for their children, decent housing and better commuting facilities. I have met Indians settled in many parts of the globe and they have great affection for their mother land. They want India to succeed and progress. High income in the foreign countries will not stop them from coming back to their mother land if we provide them better amenities,'' he said.
Referring to Karnataka Government's advocacy for Kannada medium schools Mr Murthy retorted that it would not help to fetch the desiresd result, he added.
