Srinagar, Apr 8 (UNI) The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a key ruling coalition partner in Jammu and Kashmir, today launched a scathing attack on its main political rival National Conference (NC), saying the party has become a ''piggy-rider'' of different parties in separate regions of Jammu and Kashmir to suit its vested interests.

''When in Jammu or Delhi, NC leaders join the RSS and BJP voices in maligning our party for raising the issues touching the skin of the common masses in the state and once in Srinagar they take a diametrically different line to suit the local environment,'' PDP president Mehbooba Mufti told a public meeting at Tangmarg.

She expressed dismay over the wrath the PDP has been subjected to by all political parties for its pro-people policies.

The NC has played the most intriguing role, and keeping with its tradition of aligning with the anti-people elements at the crucial phases of the state's history, Ms Mufti said the main opposition party recently left no stone unturned to sabotage any move aimed at bringing general relief to the masses.

''As the NC never believes in democracy and the people's verdict, and has always resorted to manipulative and exploitative tactics to grab power, it is once again trying to take recourse to same tactics to befool the masses,'' she added.

The PDP chief said the times have completely changed and nobody could now negate the people's verdict.

On crucial issues such as imposition of POTA, review of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), withdrawal of troops or relief in security, Ms Mufti said the NC has always spoken different languages in Srinagar, Jammu and Delhi.

''The party is yet to make its stand clear on these issues as it has completely lost track with the ground realities and is still banking on Delhi to grab power,'' she added.

The PDP president said the NC has perhaps forgotten that the state's miseries started with its brazen rigging of the Assembly elections in 1987.

''They (NC leaders) also perhaps do not remember that it was during their rule that POTA was implemented in the state and when the PDP came to power in October 2002, the first thing it did was to remove POTA,'' she added.
