Scenes of jubilation in BJP office, pall of gloom in Cong
New Delhi, Apr 7 (UNI) It was a scene of contrast that marked the atmosphere outside the offices of the Delhi Bharatiya Janta Party and the Congress as results for the polls to the Municipal Corporation, indicating a landslide win for the BJP, poured in from various parts of the city.
As the trends started coming in from various parts of the city revealing a huge win for the BJP, scenes of jubilation were witnessed at the Delhi BJP office with party workers indulging in celebrations.
In sharp contrast, a pall of gloom descended at the office of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee.
Senior BJP leaders Vijay Kumar Malhotra and Sahib Singh Verma had reached the party office to join in the celebratory mood.
While Delhi BJP Chief Harshvardhan described the party win a result of the excessive anger among people of the city towards faulty policies of the Congress that led to Delhiites bearing the brunt of sealing and demolition over the last one year, Mr Sahib Singh Verma attributed the BJP win to the people's discontentment over sharp rise in prices of commodities.
On the other hand, the office of the DPCC bore a forlorn look with no senior party leaders present on the scene.
Congress leaders too attribute their defeat to people's anger over sealing and demolition.
Some Congress workers even demanded the resignation of the DPCC chief Rambabu Sharma over the Congress debacle, saying that the party decision to deny tickets to as many as 64 sitting Councillors was a major reason for the defeat.
According to official results declared by the Delhi State Election commission, the BJP has won 72 of the 131 seats for which results have been declared. The Congress has won 37 seats, the BSP 11, the Indian National Lok Dal 1, the nationalist Congress Party 2 while the Independents won six seats.
