Mystery disease strikes village, 3 die

Satna, MP, Apr 6 (UNI) A mysterious disease has claimed lives of six children between February 24 to April 2 at Mala Toda village, 25 km from this district headquarters.

Satna Chief Medical Officer J L Mishra said all the children had similar symptoms with vomiting followed by de-hydration. The colour of tongue of the deceased children had turned blue.

A team of the National Institute of Communicable Diseases medical experts visited the village on March 30 and 31. However, NICD experts could not draw a conclusion.

One of the victims was four-and-half year old, while others were between six months to 2.5 years of age.

The CMO said the NICD team had taken samples along with it. Any comment could be made in this regard only after their report.

Meanwhile, a team from Rewa Medical College had also visited the village.

Mr Mishra said members of affected families and their neighbours had been shifted to a hostel in Nagaud as a precautionary measure.

A base hospital had been set up at the panchayat building where doctors and other staff were available all the time.

Besides, water purification and mosquito-resistant campaigns were run at regular intervals.

Minister of State for Home Nagendra Singh, who represents Nagaud constituency in assembly, reached Mala Toda and the met affected families besides taking stock of medical facilities.
