Court remanded spiritual leader Chauhan to Police custody

Mumbai, Apr 6 (UNI) A local court today remanded spiritual leader Baba Udyanath Pratapsingh Chauhan to police custody till April 12 for his alleged involvement in a conspiracy to eliminate a builder over Abhyudaya Nagar Re-development project issue.

Chauhan was arrested yesterday after the Bombay High Court rejected his anticipatory bail application and observed that the allegations levelled against him were of a serious nature and custodial interrogation of the accused was needed.

He was produced before Metropolitan Magistrate (holiday) court at Bandra this morning.

Earlier, his ABA was rejected by the session court. He had challeged the lower court's order in the Bombay High Court which was rejected yesterday.

He was booked under section 307 (attempt to murder) and 302 (murder) r/w 115 (abetment).

It may recalled that noted builder Rajendra Chaturvedi, who is in custody, for whom he had allegedly given supari (contract) of Rs 50 lakh to four persons belonging to the Chhota Rajan Gang to eliminate his (Chaturvedi's) rival builder Rashmikant Shah.

However, police had nabbed all the four persons, while they were on their way to commit the offence. The arrested persons were-Mohammed Jaffer Sheikh, Aslam Khan, Salim Qureshi and Vijay Wadkar.

During the interrogation, they have confessed that they were hired by Baba to kill Rashimkant Shah of Vijay Developers.

Both Mr Shah and Mr Chaturvedi were interested in securing the lucrative contract of the Abhyudaya Nagar Re-development Project.
