Centre assures TN of best legal talent to get OBC law upheld

Chennai, Apr 6 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today said the Centre had assured him that it would use the best legal talent to get the validity of the reservation law upheld.

Writing in the party organ 'Murasoli,' he said Union Law Minister H R Bhardwaj and Human Resources Development Minister Arjun Singh had replied to his letter on the Supreme Court stay on 27 per cent reservation for OBCs in elite educational institutions.

Mr Bhardwaj had written he had issued instructions to the Union government's counsels to explore various possibilities mentioned in his letter.

He had also promised that the Centre would use the best legal talent to get the validity of the law upheld, Mr Karunanidhi said.

Mr Singh had assured him that all his valuable suggestions would be considered by the Centre for deciding further action, he said.

Mr Karunanidhi said it was a matter of relief that both Ministers had responded in writing instead of expressing it off the record.
