BMC alumini to organise discussion on health care expectations
Bangalore, Apr 6 (UNI) In the backdrop of increasing number of litigations against healthcare professionals and lack of awareness of what doctors and health establishments can really deliver, the Bangalore Medical College Alumni Association (BMCAA) will hold a series of discussions involving the stakeholders from April 8.
According to BMCAA President N R Acharya, healthcare had become a commodity and this was manifested by the ever-increasing number of litigations and media reports of malpractice or deficiency of service by doctors and hospitals.
The root cause of this was lack of awareness of what doctors or health establishments could really deliver. It was also imperative for healthcare providers to understand what the society expected from them. In order to bridge the gap between these perceptions and expectations, BMCAA in association with BMC Development Trust would be holding a series of discussions, he said in a release here today.
The topics to be discussed include adverse medical events, limitations of hi-tech medicine, informed consent in healthcare and research, confidentiality and communication, and alternative medicine. Each session would have a doctor, a lawyer and a representative of all stakeholders, he added.
