NTPC FY07 net up 15.57 pc at Rs 6,726.4 cr
New Delhi, Apr 5 (UNI) State-owned power major National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) today posted a 15.57 per cent increase in net profit at Rs 6,726.4 crore for 2006-07 as compared to Rs 5,820.2 crore last year, and said it plans to add 3,160 MW of power in the current fiscal.
To ensure fuel security, company is working on a massive scale towards procurement of coal. Also, it is getting into hydro, nuclear power plants and is looking towards renewables in a big way.
The company is also in talks with Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) to get into the equipment manufacturing business and is also looking for other partners and possible joint ventures to meet the growing energy needs due to lack of power manufacturing equipments.
The company's sales went up 17 per cent to Rs 30,638.7 crore during the current financial year in comparison to Rs 26,142.9 crore during 2005-06.
The provisional unaudited gross revenue was Rs 33,299.7 crore in 2006-07 as against Rs 28,753 crore last year, registering an increase of 15.81 per cent.
''With a current capacity of 27,404 MW, including 1,054 MW from joint ventures, the company plans to add about 22,000 MW during the XIth plan and 25,000 MW during the XIIth plan period,'' NTPC Chairman and Managing Director T Sankaralingam told reporters here.
The company plans to be a 50,000 MW company by 2012 and 75,000 MW by 2017.
