Largest coal mining project to be executed by NTPC
New Delhi, Apr 5 (UNI) The country's largest coal mining project in a single location will be executed by NTPC at Pakri Barwadih at Hazaribagh in Jharkand, which would produce 15 MTPA of coal.
The thermal power producer has also other coal blocks alloted and action has been initiated. NTPC has entered into MoUs with MECL, SCCL and BEML.
NTPC has also signed an MoU with CIL for formation of a joint venture to undertake development, operation and maintenance of coal blocks and integrated coal-based power plants.
Speaking at a press conference, NTPC chairman, T Sankaralingam said the areas of immediate cooperation are development of two coal blocks Brahimini(1900 MT) and Chicro Patsimal (356 MW) in Jharkand to be developed and operated as 50:50 joint venture between CIL and NTPC.
NTPC and Coal India (CIL) had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to form a joint venture company to set up integrated power plants of 4,000 MW each and develop coal blocks.
Both the companies would jointly develop two coal blocks, Brahmini and Chichro Patsimal in Jharkhand, to mine 2,250 million tonnes of coal.
The two companies also plan to set up integrated power plants having a capacity of 3,000-4,000 MW each.
NTPC continues to be the country's single largest consumer of coal. Its stations consumed 111.02 million tonnes of domestic coal during 2006-07 as compared to 101.91 million tonnes previous year, an increase of 8.93 per cent.
About 2.43 million tonnes of imported coal was consumed in 2006-07 as against 2.93 million last year.
