HAL turnover soars to Rs 7,505 crore

Bangalore, Apr 5 (UNI) Defence aviation major Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has posted a 41 per cent increase in its turnover at Rs 7,505 crore (1.75 billion Dollars) for 2006-07, with the profit before tax touching Rs 1,600 crore.

The company, in a release here today, said the value of production went up by 37 per cent at Rs 8,100 crore and exports grew by 34 per cent at Rs 250 crore. Export orders worth Rs 500 crore were secured during the year.

HAL had paid the highest-ever interim dividend of Rs 237.95 crore for 2006-07, which was around 197 per cent of the Paid-up Share Capital of the company.

HAL's enhanced financial achievement was mainly attributed to the successful execution of programmes, including SU-30 MKI, DO-228, ALH and Jaguar. This apart, a series of aircraft upgrade programmes contributed to the growth. During the year, the project for the design and development of light combat helicopter (LCH) was finalised, besides additional orders for aircraft and helicopters, resulting in an all-time high order book position of over Rs 40,000 crore, the release said.

The Advanced Jet Trainer (Hawk) programme was progressing as per schedule and the first Hawk would roll out of HAL hangars this year.

The year also saw the completion of the first aircraft of the limited series production of LCA, besides two more aircraft joining the fleet of prototypes. Under the ALH weapon system integration programme, the glass cockpit utility version was certified and the first batch was produced for the Army, the release said.

During the year, HAL also set the ball rolling for co-development of a medium-lift helicopter (10-Ton class) and a multi-role transport aircraft, it added.
