4 AIADMK members suspended from TN Assembly
Chennai, Apr 5 (UNI) Four opposition AIADMK members, including three former Ministers were suspended for the rest of the Tamil Nadu Assembly session, while others were evicted en masse as pandemonium broke out in the House over remarks against party supremo J Jayalalithaa and late chief minister M G Ramachandran.
The trouble started when Backward Classes Minister M R K Panneerselvam, replying to the debate on the demand for grants for his department, made a remark against Ms Jayalalithaa, which was expunged at the intervention of senior Minister Arcot N Veerasamy.
As normalcy was sought to be restored a fresh bout of noisy scenes broke out when Agriculture Minister Veerapandi Arumugam accused the late MGR of betraying the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK).
Irked by this remark, AIADMK members rushed towards the front row with angry gesticulations and engaged in heated arguments with Ministers seated in the row and members of the treasury benches, who also rushed towards them.
The House witnessed uproarious scenes when first time MLA K P Kalairajan (AIADMK) showed his footwear at the treasury benches and made an obscene gesticulation, provoking the members in the treasury benches to shout at AIADMK members, plunging the House into pandemonium.
In the absence of Chief Minsiter M Karunanidhi, Speaker R Avudaiyappan tried his best to restore normalcy, but the members did not relent, forcing him to evict them en masse.
Public Works Minister Duraimurugan suggested that the Speaker take serious action against Kalairajan as he had breached the privilege of the House by displaying footwear.
After Leader of the House K Anbazhagan moved a resolution, the Speaker suspended Mr Kalairajan along with former ministers R Viswanathan, Ce V Shanmugam and Pollachi V Jayaraman till May 11.
Protesting against the suspension and eviction of AIADMK members, Marumalarchi DMK (MDMK), an ally of the AIADMK staged a walk-out.
