Wipro adds 12,000 seat facility at of Rs 375 cr

Pune, Apr 3 (UNI) Wipro Technologies, the IT division of Wipro Ltd, today added additional 12,000 seat facility at an investment of Rs 375 crore at its centre here.

The company began Phase-II of its Development Centre at Hinjewadi, near Pune to ramp from the current 6,300 seats.

Chairman Wipro Azim H Premji said he was pleased with the Pune operations and remarked that the investment climate in Maharashtra was favourable.

Pune will become Wipro's second largest IT Development Centre in the country after Bangalore, he said, adding that his focus was on training local and rural talent and looking at providing employment to more than a lakh people by 2010.

Mr Premji said that already two initiatives in rural areas have been taken in 16 schools covering 120 students. Priority will be given to their education in finishing schools and the initiative will be taken to reach to the students in rural areas widely.

Wipro's facility here focuses on delivering solutions to clients in the banking, securities, and capital markets, insurance, telecom, and embedded systems space, additionally the facility includes significant Remote infrastructure Management and BPO operations.

Being operated out of 5,80,000 sq ft campus at Hinjewadi, the centre after the expansion is complete will grow to around 19,00,000 sq ft.

Inaugurating the facility, Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh said his government was supporting the expansion plans of Wipro and the IT sector so as to attract investments and generate more employment.

He said the IT industry had made Pune a significant destination.
