NTR, Ramoji Rao, Rosaiah behind Council abolition: CPI
Hyderabad, Apr 3 (UNI) Senior Andhra Pradesh CPI leader Puvvada Nageswara Rao today said three persons, two of them senior politicians, were responsible for the abolition of the Legislative Council in 1985.
Congratulating Mr A Chakrapani for becoming the Chairman of the Council, Mr Rao said former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP founder N T Rama Rao, media baron Ramoji Rao and K Rosaiah were responsible for the abolition of the upper House.
Mr Rosaiah was the leader of the opposition at that time, Mr Chakrapani added.
Mr N T Rama Rao, the actor-turned-politician, was constantly criticised by Mr Rosaiah, who is now Finance Minister, on the functioning of the Telugu Desam government.
Mr Ramoji Rao, who supported Mr N T Rama Rao at that time was summoned to the House when a remark was made about ''elders'' in his paper, on a contempt motion.
Mr Ramoji Rao, however, got a stay from the Supreme Court on the verdict of the Legislative Council and the Upper House was abolished before any action could be initiated against him.
