Members of Pambanarul Ilaignar Iraipani Trust observe fast
Chennai, Apr 3 (UNI) Members of the Pambanarul Ilaignar Iraipani Trust led by their President S Sathyamoorthy observed a day's fast here today, urging the Tamil Nadu government to organise 'Mahakumbabhishekam' at Shrimath Pamban Swamigal temple at Tiruvanmiyur.
Trust spokesman Durai Saravanan, in a release, said the temple was originally maintained by the Maha Thejo Mandala Sabha established by Shrimath Pamban Swamigal, but it was subsequently maintained by another committee led by late T T Kuppusamy Chettiar.
However, the temple was taken over by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endownment (HR &CE) Department in 1984 and it was making efforts to perform 'Mahakumbhbhishekam' at the temple since 1988.
But the efforts were stalled by a group which approached the court.
He urged Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and HR and CE Minister K R Periakaruppan to intervene in the matter and make necessary arrangements for organising the 'Mahakumbabhishekam' at the temple.
